Other brass
There are millions of brass thimbles so if you collect brass thimbles, watch out for minor details. Most utilitarian brass thimbles have a rolled rim - so ones without this feature, are more desirable. Brass thimbles weren't marked with the size mark before the turn of the 20th C
If there is milling or striations around the rim, the thimble is more-recently made. It is meant to stop the needle slipping off the thimble
